Treatment of urolithiasis
Urolithiasis refers to the formation of stones in the urinary tract. These stones can block the urinary ducts and cause severe pain. Urologists specialising in urolithiasis handle the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of kidney and urinary stones using methods such as lithotripsy, which breaks up stones, or surgery when necessary.
Lithotripsy
A medical procedure used to break up stones in the urinary tract.
Endourology:
A subspecialty of urology that focuses on the use of minimally invasive techniques to treat disorders of the urinary tract.
Urologic oncology
Handles the diagnosis and treatment of cancers affecting the urinary system and the male reproductive system. This includes prostate, bladder, kidney and testicular cancer, as well as other types of urologic tumours.
